The History of a Doula
The Greek word "doula " once referred to the female servant who tended to the lady of the house, including during childbirth, in ancient times. Today the word is recoined as "a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother (and family) before, during, and just after childbirth". there are also specially trained postpartum doulas who help take care of the new family after the birth.
